Itinerary

DAY 1: WELCOME TO THE AMAZON!
  • Arriving in Puerto Maldonado, capital of Madre de Dios, join the transfer of 1 hour by bus and one hour by boat to the lodge. Your first taste of our Amazonian cuisine will be during the boat trip, as you leave the city behind and enjoy the incredible landscapes during the tour.
  • What to expect in Posada Amazonas – Strategically built in the heart of the private reserve of the Native Community of Infierno, as guardians of the forest, is this beautiful Posada Amazonas lodge, which has all the amenities such as a bar, massage room and dining service, to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
  • What is included in the Accommodation? – A 45 m2 room, with mosquito nets over the beds, private bathroom and an open window to the forest, which maximizes contact with nature.
  • What is included during your stay? – Three daily meals, teas, coffee, guided activities and excursions, welcome refreshment upon arrival at the lodge, transfers to and from the airport. Guides are assigned in a ratio of 10:1
  • A half-hour walk from the lodge takes us to the 42-meter-high observation tower, a staircase with railings will provide us with safe access to the top of the tower, from which we can contemplate the impressive forest of the Tambopata National Reserve. From the top it is also possible to observe different species of birds such as toucans, macaws, birds of prey among other species.
DAY 2: POSADA AMAZONAS
  • In the Amazon we take advantage of the first lights of the day, which is when there is more wildlife activity, even if you are on vacation, our guides will encourage you to get up very early to start the adventure!
  • The Tres Chimbadas lake thirty minutes by boat and forty-five minutes walk from Posada Amazonas, is an expedition that you should not miss! We will sail in a catamaran in search of wildlife such as the hoatzin or Shansho who is said to be a pre-historic bird! Caimans, the kingfisher among other species, if we are lucky we can observe a family of giant river wolves that inhabits its waters (seen by 60% of visitors to the lake).
  • The Ñape Center Communal organization that makes natural medicine with plants from the forest, have a small medical center where they administer them to local residents. You can walk the trails where the different plants and their healing properties are shown and explained.
  • You will have the opportunity to take a night walk in the middle of the forest, it is incredible the amount of different sounds that can be heard in nature at this time of day. Many mammals are active at this time, but are rarely seen. Much easier to find are the tiny frogs.
DAY 3: JOURNEY BACK TO THE CITY
  • Our expedition has come to an end. It’s time to say goodbye! We will return to the airport for your domestic flight.
  • Thank you for your visit. This contributes directly to the effort made by the Native Community of Infierno to sustainably protect their lands in Tambopata.

The Trip

Posada Amazonas requires at least two hours of travel. The first step for the trip to Tambopata includes a plane flight from Lima or Cusco to the city of Puerto Maldonado, where you will be greeted by our guides. Then, you will take an hour bus ride, followed by one more hour of boat trip to reach our oasis in the middle of the Amazon.

The Trip By Plane

The first step includes a flight from Lima or Cusco. Flights from Lima depart from Jorge Chávez International Airport. The trip takes 1 hour and 30 minutes. Almost all flights stop in Cusco. The flight from Cusco departs from Velasco Astete Airport, this flight can take 30 minutes.

The Trip By River

In the Native Community of Infierno, where our pier is located, we will take outboard motor boats, which will take us upstream to Posada Amazonas. The trip can take between 40 minutes and an hour. This could include sightings of wildlife such as macaws, herons, caimans and capybaras.

Once You Arrive At The Lodge

Access to the lodge includes climbing a ladder of approximately 70 to 90 steps. The number of steps depends on the season, whether dry or rainy, and the fluctuation of the river. These stairs could be considered of a medium level of effort. Normally access from the pier to the lodge can take about 15 minutes of walking.
