This trek is operated in conjunction with the local communities who participate in the ownership of the Lodges, a true "Ecotouristic" adventure and sustainable tourism. Visiting this area is considered one of the most rewarding experiences you can have in the southern Andes of Perú. This is the highest mountain in the Cusco region where rich traditions are evident amongst the people that live near the Sacred "Apu" Auzangate Mountain (Apu means God in the native Quechua language).

We take off from Cusco heading southeast along the Villcanota River.
On the way, we will visit the impressive temple of Checacupe, and then continue to the upper valley of Pitumarca up to Chilca. Upon arrival, the community members will greet us with traditional Andean Music, as we sip coca tea and relax in Chilca Tambo. L,D.

We will walk about five hours, Thousands of alpacas and llamas inhabit the glacier valley of Phinaya. We climb by the Pjachaj waterfalls, right above them our cooks and assistants will have our picnic lunch ready, surrounded by moraine walls, glaciers and lagoons. We hike along a Glacier moraine before we reach Machuraccay Tambo. Upon arrival, we will be welcomed by an afternoon English tea served by the family that runs the lodge. B,L,D.

After a great hike to the Highest point in the journey, Palomachayoc pass, 16590ft, above the Ausangate Cocha Lake, we immerse ourselves in the red sandstone sediment formations, heavily eroded by Ice, frequently we can observe Condors and sometimes Vicuñas before we arrive to Anantapata Tambo. This lodge was built by the community with the assistance from IFAD and it's the only different structure. B,L,D

The massive glacier del Inca, the most striking colors in the sediments of Yauricunca, hundreds of Andean geese nesting in the cliffs of Anta, are part of a fascinating landscape in our way to Huampococha Tambo. Here we will have the opportunity to share in a textile art class given by the expert weavers of the local Osefina community. B,L,D.

We hike over the last pass following a trading route of the llama and alpaca herders, towards the lower quechua valleys, where they traded for agricultural products; admiring the appearance of the first cultivated soils, and the presence of sturdy mountain trees. We return to more populated areas and after lunch by car to Cusco. B.
